We had a productive weekend. When we are elbow deep in a home project we are always so appreciative of our kids' ability to entertain themselves. I'm afraid they spent way more time than usual playing computer games. This weekend it was Club Penguin. I have a love/hate thing with that site. But this weekend, their rekindled interest was a bit of a blessing.
Right now we're working on a built-in window seat in our daughters room. (You'll see the how-to soon.) Does building our children a lovely little spot for dreaming and reading off-set the hours of online games they played while we made it?
We rewarded them with some great outdoor fun after our work time was done. We went on a lovely trail bike ride last night, then had a campfire and made s'mores. See, we weren't totally sucky parents.
What's on our Menu this week:
Tonight Ed barbecued in our grill pan (love that thing!). We had some discounted garlic sausages, which he sliced up with red and yellow peppers, celery and onions. We served it with leftover rice. Quick, tasty and so crazy delicious.
"Sauce Chicken" (aka Chicken Stew with Curry Sauce) served with cous cous
On the BBQ: Simple Marinated Pork Chops with noodles and Roasted Parmesan Cauliflower
Our Fish Stick Hack with peas and mashed potatoes.
Roasted Pork Tenderloin (recipe coming soon!), Broccoli with 5 Minute Bread.
Better Thank Takeout: Baked Chinese Chicken with Lemon Sauce
We've got some friends visiting! I'm really excited to spend time with them. We haven't got a great idea for what the meal will be yet, but we'll come up with something!
So far, our kids are less than accepting of a creative new meal. So for them we'll do an old standby: Kids Pizza Chefs.
Do you ever do that? Feed your kids first and then dig into some real chow with friends afterward? We don't have separate meals, except on special nights when the same old just won't do.
