How do you tastefully decorate for Halloween? I’ve got ideas for you! Here’s a creative collection of cheap and easy DIY Halloween Decorations for a fun and friendly Halloween front door and porch.
You may already know, I’m currently on a year’s leave from work to recover from burnout and be creative. It’s been truly wonderful! I’ve got the time and energy to create – which is what feeds my soul.
But this leave is unpaid. This creative energy needs to be directed in really cheap directions. So when a holiday approaches, my craft ideas for decorating must be affordable.
That’s what this list is all about – creative and affordable Halloween decor crafts for your front door and porch. It’s a great area to decorate to welcome the trick-or-treaters and have a little fun.
But a caveat: nothing on this list is especially scary – think Casper, not Freddy Krueger. Because while the really ghoulish stuff looks like a blast for the grownups to decorate – I prefer a lighter touch. I want to make small children feel welcome – not pee their pants.
I blame a neighbour on my street growing up for my scaredy-pants approach.
When I was about 8, my friends and I timidly approached a spookily decorated house – complete with a scarecrow in a creepy mask sitting on a chair on the porch. It was a bit freaky, but I wasn’t overly bothered.
But, the worst was yet to come. “RAHHHH!” suddenly the scarecrow stood up and chased us to the door. It wasn’t a stuffed dummy after all! It was just a human dummy who scared me so much I was done for the night – my Halloween cut short. I’m sure the guy thought it was in good fun – but it wasn’t for me.
