I can’t believe it has taken us this long to discover crescent roll tacos.
I mean, we love tacos and all things Tex-Mex – in fact, we’ve even made quesadillas in campfire pie irons, the very same things that we use Pillsbury crescent rolls to make sweet desserts in. The idea of combining flaky refrigerated crescent roll dough and savoury, Mexican-inspired fillings has been staring us right in the face for years.
I’m disappointed in us.
Well ‘us’, be disappointed no more! Our library of meal and appetizer ideas just got bigger by virtue of adding this easy and delicious crescent roll tacos recipe. But how to unleash it on our friends and family?
The obvious idea, this time of year, would be to serve it a football party of some sort. Pairing a couple of rings of crescent roll tacos with our annual Super Bowl Party Game seems like a no-brainer. And we will probably do that. But we’ve got an even bigger event coming soon.
Our daughter is having a birthday soon and her friends taste pallets run the gamut from ‘Adventurous’ to ‘Very Plain, please”.
These crescent roll tacos fit the bill perfectly, as their basic ingredients are pretty universally appealing: meat, cheese and refrigerated crescent roll dough. You could even simplify further and cook them meatless if you wanted.
Where this dish shines is when you put it out with all the other toppings – salsas, dips, veggies; basically a taco bar of choices – giving our guests the options to garnish their plates any way their tastes suit. We know some will eat their crescent roll tacos plain and others (me) will try to cram everything onto them that they can possibly fit. Everyone wins!
(Oh, and did we mention how easy and fast they are to make? If the birthday party or game goes to overtime, crack another couple rolls of crescent roll dough open and you’ll have more on the table in 20 minutes)
