You really have to try campfire pie iron recipes for your next camping trip or backyard cookout! Pudgie pie recipes (as they’re also known) are our family’s absolute favourite ways to cook over a fire. If you’ve never tried cooking with these cast iron tools of deliciousness, then this collection of some of the very best pie iron recipes is a great place to start.
We’ve included:
- pie iron recipes for breakfast
- pie iron recipes with tortillas
- pie iron recipes with bread
- pie iron recipes with biscuit dough, and of course
- campfire pie iron recipes for dessert
Where can you buy campfire pie irons? Are they expensive?
You are in luck! At the time of publishing this quality campfire pie iron was only about $10! The best price we’ve ever seen!
If that sale is over, this is a very good price for two. We’ve found you want at least one per family member – unless your family is more patient than ours to share!
You can also purchase double pie irons – but we’ve never seen the value. We like the singles because, in our family, everyone wants to make their food in their own way and cook it themselves. But your family may feel differently, of course, and at least one recipe below uses a double to make a fun meal for more people.
(Ha! I kind of love this embroidered pie iron carry case – it’s both very serious and very hilarious. Like someone who has a case for their pool cue…only not as intimidating.)
If you’re looking for a traditional printed cookbook, we have this Pudgie Pie Revolution cookbook and it’s so much fun!
Best Campfire Pie Iron Recipes (aka Mountain Pie Recipes)
1. Pie Iron Recipes with Crescent Rolls
This is our family’s favourite! We make very simple individual pies over the fire whenever we have friends visit. I don’t have a photo right now, but the recipe couldn’t be easier:
- Preheat the closed pie iron in the fire for a few minutes. We’ve found this reduces overall cook time and browns the crust nicely.
- Open the hot pie iron and spray with non-stick cooking oil spray.
- Take two triangles of Pillsbury crescent roll dough and make them into a long rectangle. Place it into the pie iron.
- Add a dollop or two of canned pie filling, any flavour to half of the rectangle.
- Fold the dough over the filling and squeeze the edges shut.
- Cook in the fire until the dough is golden brown.
The easiest and most fun pie you ever made!
