I’m designing a new room in our home and I’m on the hunt for unique home office desk ideas to DIY!
I’m taking a little break from sharing all the projects from our Basement Pub and Hobby Room. That room is finally done – and the creative part of my brain has jumped into dreaming up ideas for the next space:

I’m designing a room with a few functions – which is how you do it when your home isn’t huge but you want to live large in it.
This is where I work and the kids play and practice their instruments and I’ve given myself the challenge of making these diverse needs actually look good in one small space.
I’ve got my workstation and the kids have their gaming stations and they’re here to stay. So this room needs to house three computer desk spots.
Three?! Does that sound like too many for a family of four? Let alone in one room?
Pre-pandemic I would have said, “Heck yeah that’s way too many computer stations! That’s exccessive and far too ugly for one space. No way. Not happening.”
But, then 2020 came and had other ideas. And now that we’ve been cooped up at home for a year we’ve become more reliant on computers for school, working playing and socializing. I’ve come around to the reality my family saw before I did.
Over the last year, Ed and the kids have built some desktop gaming systems and they need to be in the same space as my work desk and our music room with guitars and digital piano.
So I need two unique home office desk ideas:
- Two matching desks for the kids gaming (for either side the french pocket doors)
- And one for me (tucked under the corner windows where the light is most energizing).
