Not only is it very delicious, but it is also shockingly affordable & easy to create. Our No Bake Easy Oreo Ice Cream Cake Recipe quickly became our go-to for all summer birthday parties.

And most crucially (from my point of view, anyhow) is that the Oreo-chocolate syrup layer is a very, very close proxy for my beloved DQ cake fudge crumble. What are the crunchies in ice cream cake made of?

In ours, a spectacular mixture of Oreo crumble and chocolate fudge syrup. We can only assume that Dairy Queen keeps their secret recipe in a vault alongside the Caramilk secret and KFC’s spice mix, but our knock-off creation is pretty close. The syrup doesn’t freeze solid, so the Oreo bits are crunchy, without being impossible to bite into.

Are ice cream cakes just ice cream?

The best ones aren’t. Sure, there are some great, great all-ice cream creations out there, but for our money, the very top-notch ice cream cakes all mix in a variety of textures and flavours that elevate the ice cream base to something really next level. Cookie crumbles, nuts, candy bar bits, actual cake, syrups, fruit, chocolate coating – all of these extras make a humble ice cream cake into something that every guest will be clamouring for seconds/thirds of.

How long does homemade ice cream cake last?

Our recipe is usually a make-the-day ahead sort of deal, only because it benefits from 24 hours to fully re-freeze through. It also takes up a lot of space in the freezer, so pre-party that is always a consideration.

After serving, it needs to go back in the freezer, obviously, and like everything you store in the freeze keeping it air-tight and sealed will keep it fresh and avoid the dreaded freezer burn/frost build-up. Preserved this way, your cake should last a week or even two, but when they are this delicious, I would be very surprised if there were leftovers after even a couple of days😉.
