Car trip season is here again and our Road Trip Bingo printable has you covered. This is another car game classic, but we’ve take the work out of it so all you need to do is hit print, shuffle the cards and hand them out. Read on to see what makes this Road Trip Bingo the one to play.
Why is this printable game so GREAT?
- Well, first off, it is DONE. Just hit Print!
- We’ve given you 10 different variations of the cards featuring signs that should look like ones you have in your area, but you can allow for a certain degree of leniency if some of the signs aren’t exactly like what your region uses.
- Next – it is a PDF, so if you don’t want to (or can’t) hit Print, you can take screenshots with your phone and send each player their own digital card to play on their device.
- While this defeats the analogue ethos of the game, we’re firm believers that having everyone doing a common thing together – even if it is on a screen – is better than a car full of people in their own bubbles.
- Most phones/tablets have a photo-markup option/editor, but definitely figure that part out ahead of time, as no one wants to be doing tech-troubleshooting at highway speeds.
- Finally – it’s BINGO!
- Come on, it’s a classic. Simple rules, that most family members will likely know already and a format that lets people participate at their own rate. There is a reason why this game endures – it is pretty fun.
Our Fun & Free Road Trip Bingo Printable Game – How to use it…
Like our Car Counting Road Trip Printable Game, this activity scales for all ages and attention spans.
Young kids:
- If you have new readers or pre-readers – great news – most signs are, by design, created with ease of recognition in mind.
- One of the earliest symbols most children will learn is the red stop sign, maybe even before they can read the word ‘STOP’.
- This game easily works for them and you can match their attention span, by making it a “Find 5” or “Find 3 in a Row”. (Bingo purists may bristle at this, but it’s your game- you make the rules to suit your car-trippers.)
- Make it a teachable moment if you like too, by seeing if your new sign-learners know what the sign means.
Older kids:
- For older kids, you can go full rows, full card, whatever. Let your understanding of your household guide your rules.
- If you know conflict can be an issue, play on one ‘Family’ card that everyone contributes to.
- If/when your teens roll their eyes at it, ratchet up the competition with prizes or add in ironic lucky troll dolls and/or bingo dabbers.
- My experience with high school students is that many of them want an excuse to be goofy or ‘have nostalgia’ for something, and this might be the ticket. Embrace your inner Jimmy McGill!
