- A sweet-tart apple that keeps it’s shape when baked is best.
- We find the best apples for a crumble are: Granny Smith, McIntosh, Honeycrisp and Golden Delicious to name a few.
- Avoid: Red Delicious, Gala, Fuji
- You can mix and match different varieties for a more complex flavor profile.
- Make sure to cut your apples into uniform slices to ensure even cooking.
- When it comes to the gingerbread crumble topping, be sure to use cool-to-room-temperature butter (don’t melt it!) and mix it into the dry ingredients until you have a crumbly texture.
- To achieve a beautifully golden and crispy topping, bake your apple gingerbread crumble in a preheated oven until the topping is golden brown and the apples are bubbling.
- Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for the ultimate dessert experience that balances the warm, spiced flavors of the crumble with the cool, creamy texture of the ice cream.
