The Best Brownies in a Jar Recipe – EVER – a wonderful gift idea

by Robin
Without exaggeration, these brownies in a jar are The Best Brownies Ever.
I am a faithful woman. When you know you already have the best, your eye does not stray.
Since first meeting these brownies in a jar, I have never even glanced at another brownie recipe.
Seriously. I have yet to make them for someone who didn’t spontaneously proclaim them this prestigious title.
It sounds like I am yanking your chain, I am not. You are just going to have to make them and taste for yourself.

Here’s the recipe to make just one batch without the jar
As if being the epitome of tastiness wasn’t enough, this recipe is adapted to make a pretty “in the jar” type gift for someone.
It has become our family tradition here to make these Brownies in a Jar at the end of the school year.
The kids get to practice showing gratitude by creating these gifts for the kind people who have made our year great:
- teachers,
- principal,
- babysitters
- and a few other indispensable folks.
This year we made 6 jars (plus one batch sans jar for eating ourselves.)

Don’t make the mistake of only making these for others! 😉 Here’s the recipe to make just one batch of our Best Brownies Ever

This is an amazing recipe and a amazing gift. I put them in Christmas gift baskets for my family, they loved them. I think I’ll do the same thing for Valentine’s Day. Thanks for sharing this recipe.
That’s wonderful news, Sue! Thanks so much for coming back to let us know. 🙂
Are these in a quart (32 oz) jar?
Can’t wait to make them for my husbands secretaries.
Yes they are, Tiffany! Such a great gift! 🙂
What do these look like when they come out? I'd like to put a picture on the label..thanks!
What a great idea! I need to take photos next time we make them! 🙂
Is the cocoa powder unsweetened?
Yes! 🙂
Seriously. Best brownies ever – in a jar or not!
Thanks, Jennifer! I couldn't agree more. 🙂
Just verifying …really 3 eggs?
Yup. 3 eggs. Just think of all the protein these brownies have. 😉
These brownies were given to me as a gift and after we made them I was immediately online looking for a recipe. Glad I found it! I made a dozen last night for coworker gifts. I changed the milk chocolate chips to Andes peppermint chips for the holidays!
Thank you for posting! These brownies are dangerous!
Peppermint Chips sounds awesome! Thanks for sharing your idea and comment. I couldn't agree more – these brownies ARE extremely dangerous!
Would the brownies come out just as great if I used all regular chocolate chips instead of half white chocolate chips?
I think they'd be just fine, Erin. The white chocolate gives the brownies a pretty look – but leaving them out wouldn't change things too drastically. 🙂
Thanks for the recipe! Looking forward to making a dozen or so for gifts from the kiddos:)
You're so welcome! Thanks for your comment! 🙂
Do you need any baking powder?
Nope! 🙂
What kind of flour do you use? Self-Rising or All Purpose?
It's just plain old all-purpose flour!
There are two amounts of flour…is that correct?
It looks strange doesn't it, Kristine! But it's correct – it's because of the layers in the jar – the divided flour makes 2 white layers. 🙂 Robin
5/8 cup of flour is interesting. I have never seen a recipe that calls for 8ths.
Agreed. 5/8 cup is completely bizarre. It is important for making it fit the jar. It works out delicious, so I just go with it ~ Robin
@frugalfamilytimes,
It was a strange measure, for anyone interested it works out to 1/2 cup plus 2 tbsp!
Your picture of your jars looks like you have 3 layers of flour which made me think I did mine wrong, but after re reading the recipe several times I decided it must only be two.
We made this a a gift. Great idea with simple instructions. Thanks
Hi Petra – One of the white layers is sugar – two are flour. Glad you liked the idea!
I love food in a jar! These look super cute, I'll have to try these. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks, Kimberly. You won't be disappointed if you try them!
