While we still have a few projects to update you on from our basement makeover series – we’ve pretty much got it done down there! It looks so good and I wish I could show you more, but…

The creative part of my brain has moved on – this part of me has decided it’s time to update the main floor. (The disciplined part of my brain needs to sit me down and get me to write about the remaining basement projects! They’re great – but the disciplined part of my brain has very little power right now.)

One of the first things we did to freshen up our main floor was to paint the whole back half of the place. Our main floor is mostly open concept (there’s no natural places to start and stop wall colours) so when you want to change the colour of a room it’s a major commitment and a massive job.

The beauty of having teenagers is free labour the chance for fun family projects.

Our 17 and 14 year old pitched in! We taught them how to paint a room and they helped us turn what would have been a miserable multi-day project into a single day! They did a fabulous job and made it fun. Finally, this parenting thing is paying off! 😉

Our kitchen and living room needed a new wall colour – they were a great shade of yellow. But after 13 years they were tired and a bit too hyper of a colour for us now. (Tired and hyper is a thing – see: parenting.)

We painted them a fresh, whispery tan: Sherwin Williams Accessible Beige. A truly terrible name for a fabulous neutral. It’s a great no-fail shade that looks great with everything.

Once the new colour was up, it felt urgent to me to freshen up the artwork. I wanted something a bit quieter and moodier than the prints I had before.

But, our current reality is that we are in the third lockdown right now due to the pandemic. Only essential stores are open – so the hunt through thrift stores, consignment shops and boutiques, that I would have done previously, is just not possible.

Also, the spot that I need the art for is in transition. It’s where we will be installing a gas fireplace in the coming months. I’m not willing to invest in art that may not look right for the space in the very near future.

So, I went hunting on Etsy for Printable Curated Gallery Wall Art Sets – there’s so many great reasons to do this:

  • Printable.
    • You don’t need to visit stores (that aren’t open) to find artwork. Just download the prints and print them.
  • Curated.
    • You can have an instant collection of beautiful and thoughtful pieces (- that maybe definitely make me look more talented at art curation than I am).
  • Choice.
    • So many styles to choose from: I searched for vintage, modern, minimalist, boho, eclectic and found tons of great options!
  • Affordable.
    • Many of these sets are less than $20 for a whole gallery wall.
  • Low Commitment.
    • Because they’re so affordable and easy – you can change your gallery wall set whenever the mood strikes.

I found some gorgeous curated gallery wall sets to consider – and you’ll find some of my favourites below!

Neutral, Minimalist Gallery Wall Set of 5

I love this one! If it had a sailboat I would have bought it hands down.

So which gallery wall art sets did I end up buying?

Well, I didn’t make it quite so easy on myself. I combined two gallery wall collections!

There’s a simple reason why I combined two: Sailboats. Apparently, like more cowbell, I just can’t get enough sailboats.

You know this about us right? Ed and I met through sailing. We were both sailing instructors at a weird summer camp – that’s where we met and fell for each other. (And last summer we bought a little 16 ft sailboat and started teaching our kids – they love it like we do!)

Our final choices are below:

Here’s how I organized my printable gallery wall…

Here’s what I started with. Just a collection of simple 8×10 frames from Michaels (bought years ago – with a coupon of course!)

The prints above came from this frameable art collection book.

The artwork is cute and bright – which felt right many moons ago, but now I’m a quieter moodier person. (ha! That statement may actually be true – this pandemic has AGED me. You too?)

After downloading my prints I printed them to the 8X10 size and played with how I wanted to display them.

For my simple configuration I needed 3 portrait and 3 landscape.

My plan when things reopen is to have them printed onto better paper at a local print shop – but we do what we can.
And TA DA! For less than $20 and a few minutes work (at home) – I have an art display that I love looking at.

And here’s the room today. I’ve got big plans for this wall – by winter we’d like to have a gas fireplace installed between the two windows. I’m really happy with this new curated gallery wall in the meantime.

(Other future plans are a new sofa and new throw pillows. And I’d like to refinish the wood on that chair – and it’s partner that’s not shown.)

We posted years ago about our festive holiday gallery wall prints – free printables! We just tuck them in behind the current art and move them forward at Christmas.
